Making an Impact

The Clear Lake Environmental Research Center (CLERC) is dedicated to fostering environmental sustainability and resilience in the Clear Lake region. Our impact is rooted in our commitment to restoring ecosystems, reducing hazardous fuels, and enhancing community safety. Through active land and water stewardship, we work to preserve the region’s ecological health and support its long-term vitality. By combining scientific research, community engagement, and strategic partnerships, CLERC drives initiatives that protect and sustain the environment while improving the quality of life for local residents.

Measuring Success

Success for CLERC is defined by tangible and impactful outcomes. We measure our achievements through substantial grants from state and federal agencies, which have injected millions into the local economy and created vital job opportunities.

Our program impacts include free chipping services, fire resiliency projects, and roadside hazard tree abatement. Key metrics include hundreds of report submissions to our Clear Lake Hitch app and over a thousand wastewater and drinking water tests conducted annually in our in-house water quality lab.

Expanding our team with new staff and board members enhances our capacity and governance. Participation in significant industry events, such as our Executive Director's panel at the inaugural California Wildfire Conference, further establishes our leadership and influence. These efforts underscore our commitment to environmental stewardship, community engagement, and organizational growth.

Our Vision

Our vision can only be realized through the collective efforts of the entire community, involving all sectors ranging from nonprofits like CLERC to government agencies, Native American Tribes, farmers, residents, and businesses. Elevating the legacy of Lake County's natural and economic resources necessitates widespread collaboration among institutions, even those who may not have traditionally been part of community decision-making processes. Together, we have the capacity to act as stewards for our land and waters, thereby uplifting our communities and the individuals who call Lake County their home. We firmly believe that by healing the land, we can contribute to the healing and revitalization of our communities as well.
