CLERC Kicks Off Major Reforestation Effort in Mendocino National Forest |
Despite snowy conditions on March 14, 2025, CLERC staff made the journey to the USFS Placerville Nursery to pick up thousands of seedlings destined for replanting in the Mendocino National Forest. This year, 21,000 seedlings will take root, marking the beginning of an ambitious reforestation initiative that will see more than 200,000 additional trees planted in the coming years. This project represents the first large-scale replanting effort in the Mendocino National Forest since the devastating wildfires of 2018 and 2020.

In Memoriam: Brent Kallander |
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Brent Kallander, CLERC's dedicated Forester, who tragically died of natural causes on January 22, 2025, while working in the Mendocino National Forest. |
Brent was an invaluable member of our team, bringing expertise, passion, and a deep commitment to restoring and protecting our forests. His contributions to CLERC and the community will have a lasting impact on the landscapes he cared for so deeply. We are profoundly saddened by this loss and extend our heartfelt condolences to Brent’s family and loved ones. His presence will be greatly missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire our work.

The CLERC Carbonizer Project |
CLERC’s Carbonizer Project is transforming wildfire risks into climate solutions by converting excess woody biomass into biochar. With invasive pests contributing to widespread tree mortality, responsible wood disposal is more critical than ever. Simply turning it into firewood can spread pests, and much of the material is on private property, where disposal options are limited. By utilizing the Tigercat Carbonizer, CLERC and its partners are turning hazardous debris into a valuable resource for carbon sequestration, soil enrichment, and water filtration. With biochar production now underway, the project is expanding with a Log Hauling Pilot to collect downed trees, ensuring a safer and more sustainable landscape.

Why Private Donations Matter Now More Than Ever
Nonprofits like CLERC rely on private donations to continue serving our community, especially during uncertain times. With increasing demands for wildfire resilience, environmental restoration, and community support, private contributions help us fill funding gaps, respond quickly to urgent needs, and sustain long-term projects.
Your generosity directly impacts our ability to protect and restore Lake County’s natural resources. Together, we can build a more resilient future. Thank you for supporting our mission! |
